Hello Families, I want to thank my students for all of their efforts using Google Classroom over these last many weeks! You are all doing a great job grade 3's!. 😎
I have not been posting much on our Weeby over this last while as I found I can make announcements and communicate easily through our classroom, but I wanted to share a cool site with you! My brother in law James is a children's entertainer in Toronto. Since Covid-19 he has not been able to do any live shows so he has been doing them virtually instead. For now, he can more easily reach an audience outside of the city and so I wanted you to know about him! Maybe there are children in your home who would like to drop in on one of his shows!
James Funnyhat does Sing-Along Clubs and Storytelling Workshops through Zoom now, and participants are invited to Pay What You Can ( All details and the address for etransfer is on the site). He has been at this now for a couple of months and has lots of room in his sessions.
I thought this might be something of interest to some of you. He has really enjoyed sharing his programs with a wider audience over these last months! Last week he had a viewer from Scotland and two others from California and Whistler! How fun is that? As it seems we might be at this Distance Learing thing for a while longer I thought I might spread the word in Collingwood as another option.
Feel free to share with friends or family members if you like! I know James would very much appreciate it. If you are not in a position to pay at this time, please feel free to jump on a show anyway. ***Details about show dates, intended audiences, and any required props for story-telling sessions are updated and posted weekly on his website which I have attached below.*** Take good care everyone! Ms. Gordon
As we move to distance learning, starting on April 6th we will begin using Google Classroom. The google classroom will be set up so that your child can access more specific learning information from me. They are expert users of google drive already so I am sure they will all be able to use it without difficulty in a short amount of time.
By Monday the students will need to access their google drive accounts using their username and password (This hould not be a problem as we have been using our accounts all year). Then they can join our google classroom.
Google classroom can be found by clicking the 9 black squares. (top right corner of the screen)
Details about show dates, intended audiences, and any required props for story-telling sessions are updated and posted weekly on his website which I have attached below.
You may wish to refer to THESE SITES as you are working from home. There are some fun activities available out there!
READ THEORY Students can now use Read Theory at home! Use your personal login ( If you have forgotten it, email Ms Gordon!) Password for everyone in our class is reading1 readtheory.org/auth/login
As schools in Ontario will be closed from March 14- April 5th some math work has been sent home with students to complete while away. Please have your child finish the following and RETURN on APRIL 5th: Modelling Division Dividing by 2,5 and 10 Relating Multiplication and Division
As well, all students received a copy of a MULTIPLICATION CHART earlier this week. Please review facts daily and commit these facts to memory! This will be incredibly helpful as we continue through our math units this year.
Please also see the Math tab for our current IXL focus. This is a site that can be easily accessed while school is not in session. I always suggest that students work with a pen and paper to solve questions before entering responses, as sometimes it is difficult to do all work mentally without errors.
Lastly, I would suggest that students write OFTEN about activities they do while away, and read DAILY!! We will be continuing our unit on PERSUASIVE WRITING when we return. They may wish to write some practice persuasive paragraphs while at home.
